Central Otago Pinot Celebration raises $15,000 for local trust
The legendary Central Otago Pinot Celebration, which attracts wine lovers from across the globe, has given back to its local community.
Central Otago wineries will be showcasing their wine tourism experiences for the upcoming season to those in the local tourism industry. "Cellar Door Experiences and Social Media" will be held in Cromwell on 21st October and Alexandra on 23rd October.
Wine Tourism is an important and growing part of the overall Central Otago tourism experience. Event organiser, Natalie Wilson from Central Otago Winegrowers states, "Working with other tourism industry partners is key to growing tourism in the region. If we all know what tourism experiences are available for the upcoming tourist season, we are better able to promote those experiences."
This year Central Otago Winegrowers is partnering with Tourism Central Otago to bring guest speaker Liz Carlson, writer, photographer and social media expert to the event. Wilson comments, “Liz Carlson runs Young Adventuress, one of the biggest and most popular travel blogs in the world, with a following in the millions. We are thrilled to have Liz Carlson join us for the evening as our inaugural guest speaker.”
Tourism operators and accommodation providers will also be given a short presentation from each winery about their offerings for the upcoming season. Attendees will be able to enjoy an informal tasting of some of Central Otago’s finest wines before and after the presentations.
Carolyn Murray from Scott Base Vineyard will be one of the participating wineries and sees the benefit to the region of running these events. “Visitors love getting the local tips on where to go, so collaboration among the tourism industry is key. This is a great forum to understand what’s on offer in our region.”
There are over 60 Cellar Doors open to the public or by appointment throughout the Central Otago region. At year end January 2019, 3.88 million visitors arrived in New Zealand of which 24% visited a winery or vineyard.
"Cellar Door Experiences and Social Media" will be held from 5pm – 8.30pm on Monday 21st October at The Moorings Event venue, Cromwell and Wednesday 23rd October at Central Stories Gallery, Alexandra. There will also be events in Queenstown and Wanaka at the beginning of November.
