Central Otago Pinot Celebration raises $15,000 for local trust
The legendary Central Otago Pinot Celebration, which attracts wine lovers from across the globe, has given back to its local community.
Next week Central Otago wineries will be showcasing their wine tourism experiences to accommodation providers and tourism operators in the Wanaka region.
10 wineries from around Central Otago will be offering wine tastings and providing information about their Cellar Doors at “Cellar Door Experiences” being held at Edgewater Water Resort on Tuesday 12th November.
Wine Tourism is an important and growing part of the overall Central Otago tourism experience. Event organiser, Natalie Wilson from Central Otago Winegrowers states, “Working with other tourism industry partners is key to growing tourism in the region.
"We’ve run these events in Cromwell, Alexandra and Queenstown with a great response from both wineries and operators, so we are really keen to bring the event to Wanaka. If we all know what tourism experiences are available for the upcoming tourist season, we are better able to promote those experiences."
Ally Mondillo from Mondillo Vineyards will be one of the participating wineries and sees the benefit to the region of running these events. "These events are about bringing locals up to speed on what our region has to offer visitors."
There are over 60 Cellar Doors open to the public or by appointment throughout the Central Otago region. At year end January 2019, 3.88 million visitors arrived in New Zealand of which 24% visited a winery or vineyard.
"Cellar Door Experiences" will be held on Tuesday 12th November at Edgewater Resort. Tourism operators and accommodation providers are welcome to drop in from 5.30pm – 8.30pm.
